Spontaneity in the Creative Process

Often individuals believe inspiration is the first step in the creative process and the phenomenon of spontaneity is ignored. Spontaneity is the readiness to act and creativity becomes the act itself. Spontaneity operates in the present moment, the here and now, and when it emerges it must be attended to or the moment is lost. Spontaneity allows the creative individual to take full command of their inner and outer resources and with the orchestration of the right timing action is taken and results in manifestation into the physical world.

To take full advantage of a spontaneous moment is to be action ready. For example, as an artist you would be familiar or experienced with the tools of the paintbrush, paint and the canvas. You would have an understanding of technique, color and form. Then, as spontaneity enters and evokes the artist to respond, all is ready. It is at this point that the artist finds the courage to answer the call and step through this doorway, to grab the paintbrush and create on the canvas.

The only destructive element in spontaneity is fear. When the person is blocked, even with all the creative gifts, no creativity will emerge. There is no mastery of the process, and anxiety overtakes the person. He or she will shut down and what is created is a disappointment to the artist. The challenge, at this point, is to re-discover the spontaneous opportunity, which only exists in the present moment. This requires removing the blocks and allowing for that life-changing moment to occur. Not only is creativity manifested but also, the creator is transformed. Are you ready?
